February was a short but eventful month at our school.  The kindergarten classes kicked off the month by learning about and celebrating Groundhog Day.  Luckily, the Groundhog did not see his shadow so we will NOT have 6 more weeks of Winter.

February  8th -12th was Curling week for Grades 4,5, and 6.  Each grade took a turn going to the Curling Rink with Mrs. Reeve to practice for a whole day!  On February 11th and 12th we held our Annual Curling Bonspiel.  The grades were divided into 19 teams of 4 and had the chance to play at least 2, four end games before eliminations.  The games were played until just 4 teams were left to compete in the A and B finals.  The teams competing for the B final were Troy Linklater’s and Sydney Kinequons’s.  The winners were Troy Linklater, Keegan L’Heureux, and Daniel Babut.  The runners up were Sydney Kinequon, Tucker Stefanick, Kaybree Skjerven, and Callum Maksymovitch.  The Teams competing for the A final were Dalyn Chuckry and Tyler Gudjonson.  The Champions were Tyler Gudjonson, Kienan Daniels, Gage Joynt, and Alicia Hunter.  2nd Place went to Dalyn Chuckry, Briana Stadnyk, Reece Bouchard, and Spencer Bencharski.  Mrs. Reeve does a lot of work to put this on for us every year.  Everybody has a lot of fun and learns a lot about Curling.

Pre-K to Grade 3 were invited to decorate cupcakes at the Co-op Grocery Store.  Each class walked over to take a turn putting pink and red decorations on the tasty cupcakes.

Grades One and Two celebrated 100 day on February 12th to mark 100 days of school.  The students and teachers dressed up like they were 100 years old!  They travelled from classroom to classroom doing 100 day activities such as Math Bubbles, and Make-Your-Own 100 day Hat.  Each student also made a project using 100 objects of their choice.

All of our Students and Staff enjoyed a week off of school from February 15th 19th.  When we returned the Kindergartens were introduced to their new “Class Pet,” a turtle puppet named Aski!  They took part in Aski day on February 26th.  The Pre-K  and Kindergarten students and their parents came to our school gym and did lot’s of fun activities like making trail mix, answering questions on the iPads, lego, playdough and crafts.

Our SCC continues to offer healthy hot lunches and smoothies regularly.  February has been an awesome month, and these were our super cool events.
