Subject: Hopping Along at Lanigan Elementary School
To:

Many activities and events kept the students at Lanigan Elementary School hopping during the month of April.  Some of the highlights included the Day of Pink, Easter celebrations, Music Festival success and Earth Day.

April 1 marked the Red Cross Day of Pink - a time to think about bullying.  Staff and students all wore pink t-shirts that were specially ordered for the day.  At the school assembly, both the Grade 1P and 1B students recited poems to promote kind and respectful behaviour, while the 6C students presented a video about the effects of bullying.

The days leading up to the Easter break involved many classrooms doing Easter art, dying eggs, making Easter baskets and enjoying some Easter treats.  The SRC cooked up hot dogs on April 2 and showed the movie Hop to the whole school.

LES welcomed two Work Experience students from LCHS who began their duties on April 13.  Jainah Manjares is working with Mrs. Bergen's 1P classroom while Taylor Herr has joined Mrs. Fick's 2F class.  Both girls have been busy helping in a variety of ways and the students in each room are excited to work with them.

The 2F room had two presentations on April 15 & 20 about “filling buckets” (being kind) and tattle tales.  Ashley Hricz, who was the school counsellor's practicum student, read stories and made colourful displays to promote positive behaviour.

The week of April 20-24 was Administrative Professional's Day.  On our own staff, we salute Mrs. Riemer for the wonderful job she does in the Office each and every day!

The students from 2W & 2F joined together to perform at the Lanigan & District Music Festival on April 22.  They were in the Choral Speaking category and recited two poems.  The experience was a great success as the group received
very favourable comments from the adjudicator.

April 22 was also Earth Day.  Several posters and art projects went up in the L Wing hall to show we care about our Earth.  The 1B students even made their own paper from bits of recycled flyers.  Two days later, on April 24 the whole school did Town Clean Up.

Central Parkland Lodge has had visitors from both the 3/4H and 2F classrooms this month.  Miss Heidecker's class entertained the residents with their singing on April 27 while the 2F students participated in exercises on April 30.

Now that the playground has dried up Track and Field practices have been held.  The badminton season has concluded with Pre-District action being the most recent tournament.
