Subject:Education and Waste Reduction Week at Wynyard Elementary
October 19-25 was recognized as Education Week in Saskatchewan, this year with the theme of “Supporting and Celebrating Success”.  It was also Waste Reduction Week, with activities sponsored by the WES Eco-Kids Club.  Both resulted in several activities during the week.  Those of us at WES celebrated Education Week and Waste Reduction Week in a variety of ways.

The week kicked off with a collaborative learning day for all teachers in the division.  Tuesday was a time to support and celebrate success with school-wide “buddy reading”.  Wednesday saw our students and staff supporting our environment by participating in a “Litterless Lunch”.

Thursday was a big day.  The Eco-kids club sponsored a used book/movie sale to help keep these items out of our landfills.  In the afternoon, all students and staff were treated to a performance from “Speed Control” that took us on a musical journey through the history of Canadian music.  Thursday wrapped-up with our annual, and always popular, Open House in the evening.  This event was, once again, very well attended by parents, caregivers, and other special guests, giving our students a chance to showcase the many successes they’ve experienced already this year.

Finally, Friday saw school members participate in a school yard/community park clean-up in the morning, and in the afternoon students were given the opportunity to tape Mr. Fisher to the gym wall, with proceeds from that event going to the new Wynyard recreational complex fund.
Overall, it was great week and great chance to observe and celebrate a couple of very important events.
