Subject:Pipe Ceremony & Feast at GGEC
To:
On Friday, September 19th 2014 we had a traditional pipe ceremony and feast At George Gordon Education Centre. (GGEC) Mrs. Kinequon was our elder that said the pray, she prayed for the people and our food as well as everyone there. We had our ceremony in the gym. The counselor Jason Morris spoke to us all. The grade 5 to 8 boys served our food for us.
The health community and parents were there for our support. At the ceremony the women had to sit on the left because we carry life inside are body, we’re closer to the heart. The men had to sit on the right. George Longman, was the one who had the pipe. The pipe was from Treaty Four, which was signed in 1874. Mr. McNabb, our principal, was part of the pipe ceremony and as well as Cody Cyr, who smudged our food. We started the ceremony at 11:00am and we were done at 1:00pm.
The food was served between 11:30 and 12:00, while we ate George Longman talk to us about respect then when we’re done and went for our recess. Having a feast is a great way to start off the school year.
