Quill Lake School Education Week Activities
Education Week was a busy time at Quill Lake School!  The week kicked off with the Scholastic Book Fair in the QLS library and ran every day until Friday, October 21st.  Many community members as well as the students came to see what was new and exciting at this year’s Book Fair.

Throughout the week, special guests were invited by the School Community Council to come in and read stories to the Kindergarten to grade 6 students.  These “mystery readers” read stories about their profession and included Jackie McEwen of Canada Post, Dianne Sawatzky of J & D Diner, Accent Credit Union’s Guy Martin, Bill Norris from the Quill Lake Fire Department, and Yvonne Silzer, Wadena Public Health.  These stories were greatly enjoyed by all the students.

On the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 18th was the QLS Fall Extravaganza!  Many parents and community members came out to take in the festivities.  The SRC hosted a game in the gym called “Don’t Forget the Lyrics”.  It had many of us singing and dancing.

Mr. Gray had a slide show presentation on the school trip to Europe last summer.  Ms. Dyok held a presentation on P.W.I.M in her classroom.  Mrs. Hufnagel gave a demonstration on the use of Smart Boards.  Ms. Berg gave a presentation on the setting up at home and downloading  of First Class.

There was a general assembly in the gym where Mr. Johnson introduced Quill Lake School students who are involved in the SRC, Yearbook and Canteen.  Sports teams including volleyball, golfers, and cross country runners were also introduced.

The Book Fair remained open for the duration of Fall Extravaganza.  In the commons area, there were several information tables set up, as well as yearbook sales, school newsletters and In Motion activities.  Nutrition Positive snacks were provided in the Home Ec. room for everyone to enjoy.  It was a busy and fun-filled evening for all.

On Wednesday, Oct. 19th, Quill Lake’s Accent Credit Union graciously cooked and served a breakfast of pancakes and sausage in honour of Education Week for all our students and staff.   Accent Credit Union also generously donated 4 - $50 gift certificates to students.  Winners were Darcy Manitopyes, Hailey Chegus, Morgan Allen and Kyle Martin.  Camouflage toques were also donated.  Winners were Drue Browning, Tyler Thiessen, Brianna Binsfeld, Braden Binsfeld and Kennedy Harrison-Smith.  Congratulations!

A tossed salad and Italian bread wedges lunch sale was also held on October 19th in conjunction with Education Week, courtesy of the SRC.

We appreciate everyone’s efforts to make Education Week such a success!
