Horizon School Division Wins Premier's Board of Education Award (December 1/2010)
The Premier's Board of Education Award for Innovation and Excellence in Education in Saskatchewan was presented on Monday evening at the Saskatchewan School Boards Association’s Fall General Assembly to the Board of Education for Horizon School Division.

This year’s winning program is the ‘Punnichy Career Transitions Initiative’.  The initiative is reflected in the Operating Partnership Agreement which was signed by Daystar, George Gordon and Muskowekwan First Nations, and the Horizon School Division.  The mission of the agreement is for all partners to work collaboratively to ensure every student has the same opportunity to succeed.

The award was presented by the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, in conjunction with the sponsor The Document Company – Xerox.   Xerox provides a $3,000 award, which is to be reinvested in the program.  This award recognizes educational innovations and improvements focused on student achievement that have been advanced or directed by boards of education.

Eldon Van Den Bossche, Trustee for the Horizon Board of Education, accepted the award on behalf of the board.  Minister of Education, Donna Harpauer and Lori Griffith, Xerox’s Business Development Manager for Saskatchewan presented the award.

“By accepting this award, our board is very pleased with the recognition this program will receive.” said Van Den Bossche.  “The Punnichy Career Transitions program’s basic premise is equitable opportunity for all students. While the board provides the vision and support for this initiative, it is the staff and the students who make it a success.”
