“Play into Literacy” activities at Punnichy Elementary
On Thursday, January 27th the students at PECS forgot about their Wiis, X-boxes, Nintendos and any other remote controlled games.  They celebrated National Literacy Day by holding a Board Game Day. Along with a few school games, donated games and newly purchased games, we had close to 25 different board games for our students to play.  Each classroom took time during the day to play some of the games.  It was even a Buddy grades activity for the Grades Two and Grade Fives. Reading instructions, taking turns, talking to each other, counting, and tabulating scores were the norm for the day along with lots of laughter!  Also, in the evening we hosted a Family Board Game Night.  Parents were invited to come and spend some time playing board games with their children. Again, lots of visiting and laughter!   The general consensus is that the day and evening were great so we will certainly be holding similar events in the upcoming months.
